An Introduction to SurfScan Technologies Ltd

The Founders
Surfscan Technologies Ltd was founded in 2002 by Neil Parker and Andrew Hall in Cardiff, South Wales.
Both Neil and Andrew have many years experience in the print inspection industry, totalling over thirty years between them.

Increasing Client Demands
Having experienced many companies and many customers during their time in the industry, Neil and Andrew became increasingly aware of the growing demands being made by clients upon their print suppliers for more accurate and reliable inspection. Where a job contained critical information, obscure character sets or where colour integrity was crucial, clients were demanding 100% print inspection and there was nothing on the market that could guarantee such levels of accuracy.

Managing Costs
As margins became squeezed due to increased competition and decreased client budgets, cost accountability was of prime importance to printers. Unreliable inspection was impacting upon waste and returns, and increased demands for greater inspection by clients was affecting productivity. Taking into account both the increasing client demands for accuracy and the pressures on the print industry to minimise costs, Neil and Andrew felt that there was a significant gap in the market to develop a print inspection system that would address both of these issues.

Investment
Shortly after set up of the company, Surfscan Technologies gained inward investment from a leading South Wales business. This investment has helped the company grow and has funded significant research and development on the current product range.

New Product Development and Testing
Following 2 years of intense market research, product development and extended periods of consultation with both print clients and suppliers, the first product in the Surfscan range was released for testing during 2003. Following successful testing with a range of clients, a further two products in the range were released for testing in early 2004. Since testing, all 3 products have now been launched with over 20 installations in the first year.
